Upgrading Classes

Upgrading classes are taught on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. All classes (except First Aid) are taught one evening/week for twelve weeks. Each session of the First Aid class is taught one evening/week for three weeks.

 

The next term will begin on Monday, January 14, 2009. Classes are offered on a first come first serve basis.

 

All classes are held at the Local's Training Center, 32700 Dequindre Road, Warren, MI 48092.

 

Make checks payable to; Local 80 JAC, money orders payable to; CASH  and mail with your completed registration form to the address above.

The cost of each class is $60.00. However, for each class session attended, you will receive $5.00 back at the end of the term.

The Detailing Curriculum order of classes are;   

                        1.    Introduction to Computers/Windows

                        2.    Reading Plans and Specifications      

                        3.    Detailing One         prerequisite; Introduction to Reading Plans and Specifications

                                                            & Introduction to Computers/Windows

                        4.    Detailing Two        prerequisite; Detailing One

                        5.    Detailing Three      prerequisite; Detailing Two

 

The Reading Plans & Specifications class will improve the students ability to find information that is vital to successful construction and provide a foundation for those  who are interested in developing or upgrading their Detailing skills. The course assignment includes preparing a comprehensive architectural and structural background drawing suitable for duct system layout.

 

The Specialty Welding class is a 24 week class and will be offered during the fall 2007 and winter 2008 upgrading term. This class is not intended to teach the student how to weld in the GTAW process, but rather how to apply that process to thin section metals. The Specialty Welding I class will teach the student to GTAW thin section stainless, aluminum and copper.  The second class in this series, Specialty Welding II will teach the student to finish/polish thin section stainless, aluminum and copper. The student will spend four class sessions of each class perfecting their skills on each of the metals.  Students must be experienced in the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process.

 

The Introduction to Computers and Windows class is a basic computer class and it is required before taking any Detailing classes. Students will learn computer maintenance,  create, copy, move and delete files and folders, change display, mouse, date and time settings, create basic documents & Excel spreadsheets & internet use.

 

Students that take the Sheet Metal Layout classes will receive instruction in basic sheet metal layout (straight duct, square throat elbows, etc.) through advanced layout methods such as triangulation and radial line.  In some cases the curriculum can be tailored to meet individual needs.

 

The Detailing One course objective is to develop skills in the use of Auto Cad. The course assignment is to layout walls, steel and ductwork using the most common Auto Cad tools.

 

The Detailing Two course is intended to develop the skills required to layout a clear, concise and accurate sheet metal shop drawing. The course assignment is to detail a sheet metal shop drawing.

 

Students enrolled in the Detailing Three course will learn the procedures required to layout the components of a mechanical room with the course assignment of preparing a shop drawing of a mechanical room.
